YOUR GRADE. YOUR CONDITION. YOUR FINISHED FIT.
Compare 1117, 1144, 52100 and 9310 for your actual drawing, stock condition and final acceptance. Separate free-machining, bearing and carburizing requirements before choosing the manufacturing route.
1 part model + 1 controlled drawing · Material condition · Quantity

These four grades serve different selection questions. Start with the final fit, required condition and records, then review the exact material standard for your part.
Specify the requested grade with product form and condition.
Compare chemistry, condition and acceptance separately.
Product form, section and annealed or pre-hardened state.
Specified treatment, protection and final-fit dimensions.
Material identity, lot records and agreed inspection.
Select your part family, then review the four decisions that control your order.
For your 1117 steel machining inquiry, identify threads, shoulders, bores and any specified case requirement. Keep the 1117 carbon steel product specification and supplied state with the drawing.

Review thread relief, useful engagement and burr access. Separate primary turning from cross-holes, flats and any finishing requirements.

For 1117 steel carburizing, agree the case-depth definition, core requirement, masking and final dimensional acceptance. The grade name does not establish one treatment result.

Define final gauging, burr acceptance, mating fits and required records. For 1117 vs 1018 steel, approve the complete standard and condition before substitution.

For your 1144 steel machining and custom 1144 steel shafts, identify journal fits, shoulders, keyways and the exact supplied condition. Do not treat every 1144 product as a branded stress-relieved product.

For 1144 steel turning, connect diameters, shoulders and radial features to the assembly datum. Review slender sections and clamping stock before the first setup.

1144 carbon steel references may describe different drawn or treated products. Agree product standard, section and required final evidence instead of assuming one hardness or strength.

For 1144 steel centerless grinding review, define geometry, acceptance and the actual finishing route. For 1144 vs 1045 steel, compare chemistry and condition before approving a change.

For your 52100 steel machining and custom 52100 steel parts, identify raceway or bore geometry, mating lands and required final condition. Separate bearing material selection from bearing design approval.

State whether the 52100 alloy steel stock is supplied annealed or in another specified condition. Review tool access and the route before assuming hardened machining is suitable.

For 52100 steel heat treatment, agree section, target condition, locations and final acceptance. Keep distortion and permitted finishing allowance explicit.

For 52100 steel grinding, define the finished surface, bore or raceway relationships and inspection method. For 52100 vs 4140 steel, review the different chemistry and condition requirements.

For your 9310 steel machining and custom 9310 steel gears, specify tooth geometry, locating interfaces and required case/core condition. The actual tooth process and inspection scope require review.

For your 9310 alloy steel inquiry, identify blank, hub and bore work separately from tooth generation. Agree the complete manufacturing and acceptance route.

For 9310 steel carburizing, specify effective or total case depth, test locations, core requirements and protected areas. Do not select a depth from a generic gear example.

For 9310 steel grinding, agree allowance and final case verification. For 9310 vs 4340 steel, compare the required route and complete specification before substitution.

A grade comparison is useful only when the product and final condition are explicit.
| Selection question | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| 1117 or 1144 turned part | Chemistry, product route, stock condition and final fit |
| 52100 bearing feature | Incoming state, treatment, finishing and bearing geometry |
| 9310 carburized component | Case/core definitions, tooth route and final evidence |
Keep the ordered standard, section and supplied state explicit.
For 1040 carbon steel or another callout, send the exact specification and required condition for review before availability and process scope are confirmed.
Selected producer references help you frame the comparison. Your ordered specification and material record govern acceptance.

Coordinate your drawing review, material condition, sample decisions and receiving requirements.
Start with load, final fits, exposure, required condition and records. Then compare the complete grade and product specification against your manufacturing route.
Do not assume weldability from a free-machining grade name. Review exact chemistry, stock condition, joint and procedure before selecting a welded route.
Review hardness, geometry, access and surface requirements before choosing hard machining or grinding. Confirm the actual route and acceptance for your part.
State effective or total case depth, test method, locations, core requirement and permitted finishing removal. Keep the tooth and final-fit requirements on the same drawing.
It is bearing steel, not stainless steel. Define exposure, handling, protection and storage for your finished part.
