17-4 PH · UNS S17400 · EN 1.4542
Specify the final condition before you release the machining route.
For your 17-4 PH stainless steel machining project, connect heat treatment, dimensional acceptance and material records to the finished drawing.

17-4 PH Condition A identifies solution-treated material. State the required final aging condition and release sequence.
17-4 PH H900 is an aging condition, not another alloy. Keep strength, toughness and final size requirements together.
17-4 PH H1150 is a different aging condition. Do not approve substitution from a similar name or appearance alone.
For 17-4 PH heat treatment, identify the governing procedure, incoming condition, final condition and required verification. Confirm the final service state with your material authority.
Custom 630 · room temperature · MPa · axis 0–1500
H90017-4 PH stainless steel properties depend on condition. Higher tensile strength alone does not settle toughness, exposure, inspection or assembly suitability.
Confirm stock identity, delivery condition and the final heat-treatment route.
State whether dimensions and surface checks apply before or after aging.
Stainless steel 17-4 PH is a martensitic precipitation-hardening grade. Search forms such as 17-4PH stainless steel and 17-4 stainless steel should resolve to your full controlled material requirement.
| Name / specification | Your order check |
|---|---|
| Type 630 · UNS S17400 | Retain the actual product form, specification revision and condition. |
| EN 1.4542 · X5CrNiCuNb16-4 | Common European correspondence; supplier references also list 1.4548. Verify the precise standard and permission before substitution. |
| 17-4 PH ASTM A564 | Review the applicable bars-and-shapes requirement and condition. |
| 17-4 PH AMS 5643 | Confirm the actual specification revision, product scope and requested evidence. |

Keep composition evidence separate from the final mechanical condition. Request the actual material record and specified test scope for your component.
For 17-4 PH turning services, connect journals, shoulders and bores to the condition in which the part will be inspected.
17-4 PH turning for 17-4 PH shafts and 17-4 PH bushings needs a clear datum scheme, fit and final surface requirement. Agree any allowance for subsequent processing.
For 17-4 stainless steel machining, retain the material condition through procurement and routing rather than treating every temper as the same stock.
CNC Turning →
For 17-4 PH CNC machining, state the current condition and the condition required at final acceptance. 17-4 PH machinability is a routing input, not one universal score.
For 17-4 PH milling and 17-4 PH drilling, identify deep intersections, thin sections and clamping access.
Discuss 17-4 PH grinding where the finished interface requires a reviewed grinding operation. Define the final inspection state and protection against subsequent damage.
CNC Milling → · Review Your Machining Route →
For 17-4 PH Swiss machining, show diameter transitions, cross features, length relationships and the required stock condition.
For 17-4 PH threaded parts, define thread standard, usable engagement, relief and final fit after all subsequent processing.
Swiss Machining →
For 17-4 PH passivation, agree cleaning, compatibility, treatment timing and evidence requirements for the actual condition.
For 17-4 PH polishing, identify the functional faces, accepted appearance and areas that must remain protected. A bright finish does not prove suitability for a corrosive environment.

01 · Final condition
State the incoming and final conditions, specification and required material evidence.
Keep final condition, test location and dimensional acceptance on the same release. The photograph cannot establish heat treatment.
Carpenter reference values under its stated conditions; not guaranteed properties of your lot or a finished-part load rating.
Read the source and conditions →
02 · Allowance & sequence
Agree which operations occur before and after aging. Do not assume final dimensions stay unchanged.
Show which surfaces finish before or after aging. Agree allowance and inspection state for the actual geometry.
These source-condition comparisons explain why the aging requirement matters; they do not prescribe machining allowance.

03 · Thread & journal
Connect functional fit, useful thread depth and bearing relationships to final acceptance.
Specify engagement, shoulder positions, runout and inspection access on the controlled drawing.
Confirm product specification and aging condition; these identifiers do not define one hardness or fit.

04 · Joint & cleanliness
Review the weld route, cleaning and final condition whenever the component includes joining.
Define joining sequence, contamination controls and the final inspection state before release.
A selected precipitation-hardening chemistry reference, not proof that a photographed part meets its specified final condition.

| Your priority | Selection input |
|---|---|
| Strength & final condition | Compare the specified condition, load case and toughness requirements. |
| Fluid or chloride exposure | Review the medium, temperature, cleaning, crevices and surface condition. |
| Joined assembly | Retain procedure, heat-treatment and final acceptance requirements. |
| Alternate PH grade | Compare the exact product specification and condition; do not infer equivalence from the family name. |
For your 17-4 PH machining quote, compare the same finished scope. When reviewing a 17-4 PH parts manufacturer, connect the proposed process and evidence to your drawing.

For 17-4 PH prototype machining, define what the sample must prove and whether its final condition represents your repeat order.
Yes, this martensitic PH family is magnetic. A magnet alone does not verify the grade, heat-treatment condition or specification.
It can corrode in unsuitable exposure or when surface condition is inadequate. Describe the actual environment, cleaning, stress and final condition.
Review the joint, procedure, material condition and required post-weld route. Keep final dimensional and material acceptance explicit.
It may be considered for shafts, bushings, fittings and mechanical components where the specified condition suits the application. A material family name is not application qualification.
Share the drawing, material form, delivery and final conditions, quantities, finish and required records. Compare complete finished-part scope.
Only after the governing requirements and substitution permission are reviewed. Their property references differ; appearance does not establish equivalence.
Do not assume it is the intended final state. The Carpenter source warns against service without age hardening because of stress-corrosion susceptibility; confirm the required final condition.
No. Retain product form, specification revision, condition and evidence. European names aid material lookup but do not grant substitution approval.
