YOUR SPECIFIED GRADE. YOUR SUPPLY ROUTE. YOUR APPROVED PART.

Customer Specified Materials for Your Custom Parts

Review customer specified materials with your drawing, complete grade, stock or resin supply route and required records. Agree material acceptance, process scope, quantities and finished-part inspection before ordering material or shipping customer stock.

Quote requirements →

Confirm the material and manufacturing scope before shipping stock or resin. This page defines the review inputs; handling, unused material and job-specific arrangements require agreement.

4 Ways to Define Your Material Supply

A Grade You Specify concept — illustrative generated concept
Illustrative concept — not material identification

A Grade You Specify

Specified material machining starts with the full producer, grade, condition and drawing requirements. Agree who purchases the material and what evidence must accompany it.

Stock You Supply concept — illustrative generated concept
Illustrative concept — not material identification

Stock You Supply

For customer supplied material machining, review the actual blank dimensions, condition, identification, quantity, workholding allowance and required records before shipping.

Resin You Supply concept — illustrative generated concept
Illustrative concept — not material identification

Resin You Supply

For customer supplied material molding, identify the full resin and color, lot, packaging and handling history. Confirm tooling, process suitability and acceptance before sending material.

An Alternative for Review concept — illustrative generated concept
Illustrative concept — not material identification

An Alternative for Review

Material substitution approval requires the full original and proposed products, affected requirements and recorded decision. A similar color, family or hardness is not approval.

Review Your Specified Material and Supply Route

Review Specified Grade for Your Drawing

For customer specified materials, retain the full manufacturer product, required standard, supplied condition and drawing revision. Agree the purchasing responsibility and material evidence before production planning.

Your decisionWhat to confirm
Material identityFull producer, grade, required standard, condition and lot
Supply responsibilityWho purchases or furnishes material; actual stock or resin
AcceptanceControlled drawing, approved sample and required tests

3 Decisions Before Material Ships

Material identity, received condition and approved output are separate records.

Confirm the Same Job Scope

Your decisionWhat to confirm
Material identityFull grade, source, condition, lot and available records
Received conditionActual stock/resin, quantity, dimensions or packaging and handling
Approved outputDrawing, material decision, sample and required inspection evidence

These are review inputs, not a delivery, cost or material-acceptance guarantee. Agree the project scope before purchasing or shipping material.

2 Supply Routes. Different Responsibilities.

A Specified Product to Be Purchased — illustrative generated concept
Illustrative concept — not material identification

A Specified Product to Be Purchased

Agree the complete material, form, condition, quantities and evidence, plus the party responsible for purchasing. A customer specification defines a requirement; it does not by itself mean physical stock will be supplied.

Physical Stock or Resin You Furnish — illustrative generated concept
Illustrative concept — not material identification

Physical Stock or Resin You Furnish

Confirm the actual material, quantity, dimensions or packaging, identification, condition and available records before shipping. Agree receiving review, manufacturing allowance and handling requirements for the planned process.

Resolve 6 Material Supply Risks

Identity & traceability for Your Finished Part

For plastic material traceability or another specified material, retain producer, full grade, lot, condition and the chain from received material to the job. Appearance alone is not a material certificate.

Match the Supplied Material to Your Manufacturing Scope

Machining Scope — illustrative generated concept

Machining Scope

For customer supplied material machining, review material identity, blank dimensions, allowance, workholding and required records.

Answers Before You Specify

Can you manufacture parts from a customer specified material grade?

Send the complete product and condition, drawing, quantities and required records for a scope review. Confirm material availability or furnished-stock acceptance and process suitability before purchasing or shipping material.

Is customer specified material the same as customer supplied stock?

No. One defines the required material; the other defines who physically furnishes it. Agree purchasing, actual stock form and quantity, receiving review and required evidence separately.

What documents are required for customer supplied resin?

Provide manufacturer and full grade, color or additives, lot, available material certificate, current product and safety information, packaging and relevant handling history. Agree any missing evidence before process acceptance.

How much extra stock should be supplied for machining?

Review the blank layout, workholding, setup, first-piece approval, order quantity and agreed manufacturing allowance. Request a material plan for your drawing rather than applying a fixed percentage.

Can a material substitution be made without customer approval?

Do not assume a proposed alternative is approved. Record the exact change, affected drawing or material requirements, comparison evidence and agreed approval before processing.

How are unused customer materials and scrap handled?

Agree the identification, quantity record, storage period, reuse, return or approved disposal arrangement before work starts. Keep actual disposition and any required approval with the job records.

Retain the Full Material and Supply Agreement

ReferenceWhat it does and does not identify
Customer specified materialsThe material requirement, including full grade and condition; does not by itself define who supplies it.
Customer supplied / furnished materialA supply responsibility requiring actual identity, condition, quantity and receiving review.
Material certificate for machining or moldingAgreed source evidence; keep it distinct from dimensional and functional part acceptance.
Approved alternativeA recorded material and scope decision, not an automatic equivalence based on generic description.

Keep full product identity, supply responsibility and agreed acceptance separate. Do not treat a proposed alternative as an approved material change.

Generated concepts illustrate stock and part geometry. They are not actual customer-supplied materials, customer parts or company receiving records.
