YOUR CASTING ROUTE + YOUR DELIVERY CONDITION
Choose the casting route, heat-treatment condition and finished interfaces together. Your A356 aluminum casting services review starts with the shape your assembly needs and the evidence it must meet.
For custom A356 aluminum castings, define the alloy, process options and final supplied condition before tooling is committed.

DO NOT LOSE THE TEMPER IN PROCUREMENT
A356 is an aluminum-silicon-magnesium casting alloy. A356 aluminium is an alternate spelling. The A356-T6 designation includes a heat-treated delivery condition; it does not identify a different alloy.
For A356 T6 castings, preserve the required material condition through machining, testing and release. When selecting an A356 T6 casting supplier, agree the governing specification and report scope alongside the geometry.
Full material callout and permitted substitutions.
Specified temper, route and processing sequence.
Part or specimen tests and traceable release records.

When choosing an A356 casting manufacturer or A356 casting supplier, ask how the proposed route controls your cavities, surfaces and final requirements.
Discuss pattern/core construction, geometry changes and cast-to-machined allowance. Sand casting →
Review reusable mold investment, die opening and feeding alongside the expected release quantities. Gravity die casting →
Evaluate the proposed filling and feeding method for your component. Route availability, validation and acceptance need project confirmation.

When comparing an A356 aluminum foundry, use the same product specification and finished-part scope. No single casting method is best for every design.
This A356 aluminum composition table shows selected supplier limits for A356.0. It is a purchase-review aid, not a full specification or an analysis of a delivered lot.
State the required chemistry record and its linkage to your casting. Minimums, residual elements and any additional contract limits still require the governing specification.
Foundry composition reference →| Element | Selected limits · wt% |
|---|---|
| Silicon · Si | 6.5–7.5 |
| Iron · Fe | ≤0.20 |
| Copper · Cu | ≤0.20 |
| Manganese · Mn | ≤0.10 |
| Magnesium · Mg | ≤0.45 · maximum shown only |
| Zinc · Zn | ≤0.10 |
| Titanium · Ti | ≤0.20 |
| Other elements · total | ≤0.15 |
Use A356 aluminum properties with the casting method, temper, specimen and test basis. A data-sheet value cannot describe every section of your actual component.
| Reference | Published typical value |
|---|---|
| A356 T6 aluminum · ultimate tensile | 300 MPa |
| A356 T6 aluminum · yield | 240 MPa |
| Elongation | 7% |
| Casting route in source | Semi-permanent mold |
Values above are from the A356-T6 comparison row in Alcoa’s EverCast technical sheet. The other alloy’s chemistry and physical-property tables do not describe A356.
A356-T6 · SEMI-PERMANENT MOLD
A356 T6 heat treatment includes solution heat treatment and artificial aging. The applicable specification controls the detailed cycle, quench, handling and verification.
Agree casting condition, support, identification and any trial measurement.
Review dimensional change and the allowance needed to finish critical features.
Retain the specified condition, test basis and required records.
For A356 T6 vs T5, review the complete temper definitions and property requirements. A T5 route is not an automatic substitute for a T6 drawing callout.
| Comparison | Your selection question |
|---|---|
| A356 vs 356 | Do the complete chemistry limits, required temper and acceptance basis match the drawing? Similar alloy names do not approve a substitution. |
| A356 vs 6061 | Does your geometry benefit from a cast near-net shape or a wrought-stock machining route? Compare the finished geometry, volumes, material condition and verification. |
| A356 T6 vs T5 | Does the proposed heat-treatment route deliver the condition specified for your part? Agree changes before processing. |
The A356 alloy name alone is not a universal strength ranking. Select the actual component route and condition.

CAST · HEAT TREAT · MACHINE · VERIFY
A356 machining services should connect the casting and heat-treatment sequence to the final drawing. For A356 T6 machining, identify the condition of incoming stock and the required final inspection state.
Use stable references and support the actual casting.
Retain allowance for bores, sealing faces and critical relationships.
Measure specified datums after unclamping and the relevant finishing operations.
Review local section changes and feeding-sensitive geometry with the proposed route.
Separate cast dimensions, machined dimensions and coated dimensions.
Specify location, test method and limits where internal quality matters.
Agree whether repair is permitted, what requires approval and what records are needed.
YOUR ENVIRONMENT + YOUR APPEARANCE
For A356 anodizing, judge the actual cast surface and the appearance you can accept. Silicon-rich casting surfaces should not inherit a decorative finish expectation from wrought-aluminum examples.
For A356 powder coating, agree pretreatment, color, gloss, masking and a representative casting sample. Keep coating allowance away from unapproved interference fits.
Define show faces, sample acceptance and handling protection.
Mark sealing faces, bores, threads and electrical contacts that need masking.

State pressure, medium, sealing faces and any agreed leak-test condition.
Identify program-specific documentation, traceability and validation.
Ask about project eligibility and the required qualification route before sourcing. A material page does not establish aerospace approval.
These are application review scenarios, not customer case studies or evidence of a tested finished assembly.
Review the full B26/B26M sand-casting callout, edition, alloy, temper and testing requirements.
Review the full B108/B108M permanent-mold callout, edition and required supplied condition.

A356 is an aluminum-silicon-magnesium casting alloy. Choose the route, specified condition and acceptance requirements with the part geometry.
T6 identifies a solution-heat-treated and artificially aged condition. The applicable specification governs the process details and required evidence.
Welding or weld repair needs an approved procedure, filler selection and acceptance rules. Consider heat effects, required final temper and any additional testing before approval.
A suitable process may be reviewed, but casting appearance can differ from wrought aluminum. Approve a representative sample against the actual visual and functional requirement.
Tooling, geometry, route, quantities, heat treatment, machining, finish and verification determine the supplied-part quotation.
No. A published value depends on casting route, condition and test basis. Specify the actual acceptance criteria and request the agreed report for your order.
No direct interchangeability follows from similar applications or cross-reference names. Review the full alloy specification, product form, condition and design approval.
A single temperature/time schedule is not appropriate for every drawing, process and specification. Agree the approved process and verification for the actual casting.
