P20 is a mold-steel family used for plastic tooling. Evaluate P20 mold steel properties against the exact supplied product, condition, geometry and finish requirement. A family name does not establish one hardness or an automatic European substitute.
SIJ lists SIMOLD 2311 / material number 1.2311 / DIN 40CrMnMo7 as an approximate P20 comparison. Confirm the actual purchase specification and supplied condition.
Keep 1.2311, sulfur-modified 1.2312 and nickel-modified 1.2738 distinct. Review suitability for your required tool surface and supply scope before substitution.

Confirm the actual supplied product and machining condition, then state any required test method, locations and acceptance. Prehardened is a supply description that still needs product-specific verification.
Do not add one by default. Start with the supplied state and required tool function, then review any additional thermal, repair or surface process separately with the responsible provider.
Identify the working surfaces, finish standard or approved sample and the inspection method. Agree the starting surface and tool-mark removal before final finishing; a photograph does not prove a finish class.
No automatic substitution is approved. SIJ distinguishes SIMOLD 2311, SIMOLD 2312 and nickel-modified SIMOLD 2738. Confirm the exact product, supplied condition and finish requirements before accepting an alternative.
P20 mold steel is not a stainless specification. Review cleaning, storage and shipment protection while preserving the working surface, shutoff faces and locating fits.
Treat repair or joining as a separate review. Identify the actual product, supplied condition, repair location and finish requirement, then agree the procedure and post-repair acceptance before work.
The drawing, supplied state, fitting route and any additional process determine the stock to retain. Agree the controlled surfaces and final inspection state rather than applying one universal allowance.
