DC53 cold work die steel is a Daido brand. Review DC53 tool steel properties with the exact product, supplied state and tooling duty; a generic D2 or SKD11 label does not establish DC53 identity.
For European purchasing, keep DC53 as the brand designation. The manufacturer comparison list assigns no direct JIS, AISI or DIN equivalent to DC53; do not relabel 1.2379 / D2 as the same material.
Confirm the material source and supplied condition, then connect the complete process route to the final working geometry.
| Element / item | Producer type description |
|---|---|
| Chromium (Cr) | 8% nominal type |
| Molybdenum (Mo) | 2% nominal type |
| Other elements | Confirm producer specification and lot records |
Daido identifies an 8Cr–2Mo type. This is a nominal alloy-family description, not full chemistry or lot acceptance limits. Request the actual supply specification and agreed material records.
| Your decision | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Material identity | Brand, source, stock form and agreed lot evidence. |
| Working route | Actual section, supplied condition and treatment responsibility. |
| Final geometry | Working profile, datum faces, surface and receiving inspection. |
Neither a grade label nor a chemistry bar guarantees die life.
Nominal type vs producer average · wt.% · common axis 0–12%
DC53 bars describe the 8Cr–2Mo type; K110 bars use its producer average. These different bases are labelled comparison aids, not complete specifications, lot reports or performance scores.

State the tooling duty, actual section, test method and locations. Review the manufacturer data with the treatment provider; supplied state and finished hardness are separate acceptance requirements.
Agree final condition, retained stock, accessible reference faces and surface acceptance. Inspect the finished geometry after grinding rather than applying a universal allowance.
Separate brand identity from performance selection. Compare the exact supply and processing route with wear, chipping, edge support and final geometry. Do not replace one purchase specification with the other without approval.
For DC53 tool steel wire EDM, define section, reachable through profile, surface requirements and any later finishing. Review thin features and datum recovery with the complete route; generic cutting-speed estimates do not quote your part.
An 8Cr alloy-family description is not a stainless specification. Agree cleaning, storage and shipment protection that preserves working faces and locating fits.
Treat repair or joining as a separate engineering review. Confirm actual steel identity, prior treatment, section and required final condition before agreeing a procedure and post-repair inspection.
Keep the DC53 brand designation and request the exact supplier specification. Daido lists no direct generic DIN equivalent. A D2, 1.2379 or SKD11 description does not by itself establish DC53 identity.
