Separate Your Casting Specification from the Ingot Callout

ZA-8 zinc aluminum alloy is a casting alloy. Your ZA8 alloy, ZA-8 properties and ZA-8 composition review should identify the product standard, route and actual final state.

Answers Before You Specify ZA-8

Is ZP0810 the same as ZA-8?

ZP8 / ZP0810 and ZnAl8Cu1 are common casting references associated with ZA-8. Retain the full product standard and revision; ZL8 / ZL0810 describes ingot or liquid alloy rather than the finished casting.

Can ZA-8 be hot chamber die cast?

Yes, ZA-8 can use hot-chamber die casting. Confirm the actual geometry, tooling, supply and accepted process with your quote; do not apply this route automatically to ZA-12 or ZA-27.

Can ZA-8 be machined?

Yes. Your ZA-8 machining review should identify usable stock, locating support, bore and thread access, accepted burrs and final measurement state after the complete route.

What information is needed for a ZA-8 casting quote?

Provide CAD and controlled drawing, grade and product standard, proposed casting route, quantities, service load and temperature, final finish, fit and receiving evidence.

Is ZA-8 suitable for bearing parts?

Review load, speed, lubrication, mating material, temperature and free or installed clearance. Material identity alone does not approve bearing life or duty.

What causes porosity in ZA-8 castings?

Review geometry, section transitions, the casting route and accepted porosity limits with the foundry. Identify critical machined or sealing surfaces and agree any required integrity test separately.

What ZA-8 die casting tolerances can you quote?

State feature limits, datums, cast versus machined surfaces and the final coating state. Your quote confirms the reviewed geometry and inspection scope; no universal tolerance is promised.

How should you specify plating and final dimensions?

Specify substrate preparation, coating system, visible faces, sample acceptance, masks, thread access and final dimensions. Keep coating approval connected to your actual mating parts.
