Frequently Asked Questions

What file formats do you accept for quoting?
We accept standard 3D CAD files including STEP (.stp), IGES (.igs), X_T, and STL. For manufacturing, we highly recommend providing 2D drawings (PDF or DWG) to specify critical tolerances, surface finishes, and threading requirements.
What is your standard manufacturing tolerance?
Our standard CNC machining tolerance is ISO 2768-m (medium). However, depending on the material and part geometry, we can achieve tight tolerances down to ±0.005mm for critical features when specified on the 2D drawing.
Do you have a Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)?
No, LK Tools does not have a strict MOQ for CNC machining or 3D printing. We support everything from a single prototype to high-volume production runs. For injection molding and die casting, tooling costs apply, but part quantities can be flexible.
Can you provide PPAP documents?
Yes, we can provide Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documentation up to Level 3, including Control Plans, FMEA, Process Flow Diagrams, and comprehensive inspection reports for automotive and critical industrial applications.
Do you sign Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs)?
Absolutely. We take intellectual property protection very seriously. We are happy to sign your company's standard NDA before you share any CAD files or proprietary project information.
Can you ship DDP (Delivered Duty Paid)?
Yes, through our global logistics network and USA office, we offer DDP shipping terms. This means we handle all freight, customs clearance, and import duties, delivering the parts directly to your facility without hidden fees.
Can you provide material certifications?
Yes, we provide full material traceability. Certificates of Analysis (COA) or material test reports from the raw material manufacturer are available upon request for all production runs.
Do you offer assembly services?
Yes, we offer comprehensive mechanical assembly, sub-assembly, and box-build services. This includes installing hardware (like PEM nuts or helicoils), applying adhesives, and performing functional testing.
Can you help optimize my design for manufacturing (DFM)?
Yes. Every order includes a free DFM review by our engineering team. We will suggest modifications to improve manufacturability, reduce cycle times, and lower your overall part cost without sacrificing functionality.
What is your standard lead time?
Lead times vary by process. CNC machined prototypes typically take 3-7 days. Injection molding tooling takes 2-4 weeks, followed by T1 samples. Production runs are scheduled based on volume and complexity. We also offer expedited services for urgent projects.
Do you provide First Article Inspection (FAI) reports?
Yes. For production orders, we standardly provide an FAI report based on a random sample from the first production run to verify that all dimensions meet the print specifications before proceeding with full mass production.
What is the maximum size part you can CNC machine?
Our large-format CNC milling centers can handle parts up to 2000mm x 1000mm x 800mm, while our CNC turning centers can handle diameters up to 800mm. For specific large-scale projects, please contact our engineering team.
How long do your injection molds last?
Mold life depends on the tooling material chosen. Aluminum prototype molds typically last 1,000-5,000 shots. P20 steel molds last around 100,000 shots. Hardened steel molds (like H13) can guarantee up to 1,000,000+ shots.
Can you match specific custom colors?
Yes, for processes like anodizing, powder coating, and injection molding, we can match specific Pantone or RAL color codes. We can also match colors based on physical samples provided by the customer.
Are you ISO certified?
Yes, LK Tools operates under a strict ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system, ensuring consistent quality, continuous improvement, and standardized operating procedures across all manufacturing departments.
Do you offer custom packaging or kitting?
Yes, we provide custom packaging solutions including blister packs, custom foam inserts, retail-ready boxing, and barcode labeling. We also offer kitting services to group multiple components into a single SKU for your assembly line.
How do you handle tooling ownership?
Once the tooling invoice is fully paid, the customer owns the mold. We store and maintain the mold in our facility for free for your production runs. If you choose to move production, the mold can be shipped to you.
What payment terms do you offer?
Standard terms for new customers are 50% deposit with the order and 50% before shipment. For established customers and large volume contracts, we can negotiate Net 30 terms subject to credit approval.
Do you have a USA presence?
Yes, LK Tools maintains a USA office and warehouse located in Carrollton, TX. This allows us to provide localized customer support, easier communication during US business hours, and domestic warehousing/distribution options.
What if my parts don't meet the drawing specifications?
We stand behind our quality. If parts are manufactured out of spec relative to the agreed-upon 2D drawings, we will rework or remake the parts at our expense as quickly as possible to ensure your project stays on track.
